CSR and HR Club Med: the environment at the heart of our priorities

Find out how Club Med combines its CSR and HR policies to act in favour of the environment, while involving its employees in Resorts and offices.

Title Heading

Since its creation, Club Med has been committed to respecting nature and protecting the environment through various actions. Aware of the impact of our activities on the planet, we have adopted a CSR approach in favour of eco-responsible tourism. This translates into a number of commitments that concern construction as well as our practices in Resorts and offices. Here's how we combine our CSR and HR policies to work towards sustainable development.

What are our eco-construction commitments?

Our CSR policy begins when we set up and design our new Resorts. For over 10 years, we have been committed to eco-certifying each new Resort by complying with the criteria relating to BREEAM certification. BREEAM is an internationally recognised standard for buildings designed to reduce their environmental impact. We also refer to the standards of this certification for any expansion or renovation project.

What actions do we take in our Resorts to protect the environment?

Protecting the environment also involves the practices we apply in our Resorts. Pollution and waste disposal, energy management and water consumption are among the key issues. The ‘Bye Bye Plastic’ programme aims to gradually eliminate all single-use products made of plastic from our bars, restaurants and rooms.

We limit the use of air conditioning, turn off digital screens and televisions at night and encourage our guests to adopt good habits. Reducing food waste is also one of our priorities in Resorts. For example, the installation of smart bins enables us to carry out checks to reduce the amount of waste.

What measures do we apply in Club Med offices and agencies?

Our CSR and HR policies also concern our teams working in our branches and offices. Employees are encouraged to adopt the right energy-saving gestures. This involves a number of different habits:

- Switching off lights when offices are closed

- Checking heating systems

- Turning off hot water tanks, etc.

CSR and HR: why and how we involve our employees

Joining Club Med means joining a group with strong values. As the environment is a priority for everyone, we are committed to involving every member of our teams. All our employees receive training to raise their awareness of environmental issues. They learn the eco-actions they need to apply in their jobs. They also learn how to work towards sustainable tourism on a daily basis during their Resort experience.

To encourage everyone to get involved, we set up various operations in the destinations where we operate. Our employees have the opportunity to take part in these local projects and make a real commitment to protecting nature. This may involve cleaning up beaches or taking action to protect marine animals or coral reefs.

Combining CSR and HR policies means giving meaning to your work by contributing to a better world.
